THIS IS REAL HOPE AND CHANGE!

By January 2009, we'll have endured 8 years of a guy who played president, so do we really need to elect another actor?

I hope not for the purely selfish reason that I think he makes an excellent District Attorney on the show. Being a courtroom lawyer with a large focus on criminal law, I know that some legal shows are a far-off mockery and others more respecting of the real life of the courtroom. I give that show credit towards doing the law justice. Whilst it has to jazz up certain things and make each story a cutting edge top felony case and/or tactically or ethically complicated to make it fit for its entertainment purpose, it does try to do alot of justice to how real life courtroom law and its evidence and tactics work. It often follows real evidence rules and decorum in court scenes and can be quite informative on legal concepts and rules and courtroom wisdoms and strategies as well as pointing out various dilemmas people can encounter.

People forget though that Fred Thompson served two terms in the US Senate (he won Al Gore's senate seat after he became VP), so he is not without merit and experience.

He’s been my first pick since threads started popping up about the next Republican candidate. I remember being impressed watching him on C-Span during one of Clinton’s gun control debates. He sounded just like he does in most of his TV and movie roles; intelligent and down to earth, traits that are all too uncommon in DC. He has better name and face recognition then most of the Congress-critters currently in office). He has a lot of experience dealing with Congress, (including being the co-chief counsel to the Senate Watergate Committee) and yet he can still claim to be a Washington outsider. He’s been pretty solidly conservative.

" I asked him if he knew who was behind the movement to draft him into the race. He said it was a "pretty broad" sentiment. Then we discussed why he left the Senate.

Thompson reiterated his usual line about leaving Washington and going back to Hollywood to get away from the fakes and phonies. He said the real reason he left was because it was hard to be "a conscientious person" and stay in politics. Too little was accomplished, the real problems of the country were hardly ever addressed and everyone looked out for themselves.

He made a point of talking about pork barreling spending and the budget. Thompson said that Republicans "lost the advantage" in budgetary issues because they also over spent and did not do anything to get the budget under control. He said, "We went to drain the swamp and became the alligators."…

Senator Thompson said it was too hard to change the system when the accomplishments were so minor and the setbacks were so large. To be clear, I didn't bring up the budget issue, he did. It seemed to be his primary source of frustration with his time in the Senate…

It's hard for me to tell which category I fall into in this instance, but I came away with the impression that Senator Thompson was not your average politician. He really was frustrated with the way the system is set against change. He was very open about his thoughts, his weaknesses and his ideas on real issues.

I am sure that if he ran I would find many areas of significant disagreement with him, but as a person in a room talking with someone he had never met before, he was friendly, honest and very likeable. Even more important than all of that, he was - at least for this conversation - eminently reasonable.

He sounded like the kind of Republican I used to be. I'm sure that's why I found him so reasonable. It would be interesting if he ran a campaign the way he just talked to me one on one. But as he acknowledges, the system in Washington is hard to change. Ultimately it would be very hard for him not to pander and tell voters what they want to hear. After all, if he told the conservative base that he did not agree with them on some core issues, they would be out drafting yet another new candidate."

I wouldn't have to if there weren't so many posers who wouldn't know what was good for them if it ran them over.

Ever stop to think why there are people who claim to be for liberty, and justice for all, when in reality they only want freedom to deny a segment of the population, liberty, and justice.

Those are the tenants which this nation stands for, Liberty, and Justice for ALL. To be for anything else in this country is un-American. Legislating the prejudices of the powerful, is exactly what this country was established to avoid, or maybe it was designed to protect people from the likes of you, and Neo-Conservatives, "neo-" because they really aren't Conservatives, if they were they wouldn't be trying to amend our Constitution to discriminate against fellow citizens for particular social characteristics.

Conservatives would, and should, work tirelessly to preserve the spirit of this country, and it's Constitution or ensure Liberty, and Justice for all.

In fact that is what each and every American should work tirelessly to preserve, after-all it is that tenant that has continued to make this country one of the greatest political experiments in history.

I fear that our government will collapse if it continues on its current course.

So far I haven't heard any candidate, from any Party talk about or mention anything that will substantially change the dynamic in this country to one of greatness again, where we the people make this country great. No one is willing to recognize the rampant divides that are ripping this country apart.

If Americans continue to be at each-other's throats, our continued failure to unite towards a single goal of greatness, will increase the negative impact our country has on global peace, and stability.

It pails me that many can't see the effect we are having on the world and each-other, and if we can't put aside our prejudice we are doomed to failure. Not from some God or unnatural event, but from our own hand, not willing to live peacefully together and in harmony to not only make this the best country in the world, but the best world in the universe.

So you can see, me must think globally, while we act locally.

People can chose their own destiny, if they can come together and take control of it; instead of letting us be guided by false prophets and con-men.

Can we not all come together to bring peace to the world, without the sword?

Have any of our leaders asked the question, why someone would want to attack this country and others? And sought tirelessly for the answers? Demagoguery is not productive, without looking for the demon in our deeds that influences the demon in others.

Fred Thompson is not this kind of man, he does not hold the spiritual values of this Country in his heart, or his actions.
